9 months with Zay

Zay is already several days into a 9-month-old, and I love every second of it. This girl is army crawling everywhere; pulling herself up, and getting herself into everything. Oh, and all the 'baba', 'mama', 'gaga', whether she's happy, hungry, or tired, she makes the world that she's out there with her sweetest voice. We have been so blessed with her easy-going attitude, love for sleep, and her friendly nature. I don't know when all that parental preference, stranger-danger phase, and separation anxiety will kick in (this part is showing a little more these days), but she is just the most perfect addition to our family. We are all smitten and in love with her.

I clearly missed out on taking her 8-month photos because we were on the other side of Earth (but that is even cooler, right?), and taking. 9 month photos just proved how difficult it is going to be to take pictures of her moving forward.

For the sake of documenting actual dates, she started crawling on September 2nd, just shortly after turning 8 months old. Honestly, we thought she would start crawling much earlier than that because she was already in a crawling position for about a month. But it took her a while to figure out all the motions. But, pulling up happened way faster than we expected. It was almost as if she was prepared to do this as soon as she figured out how to crawl.

We are so thrilled to see her progressing appropriately as a 9-month-old, even though we fully acknowledge that every baby develops at a different pace. it has been fun to somewhat compare what she picks up on compared to Zoe did at that age.

Her love for her sister has not changed one bit, and it's amazing to see how she watches her intently and follows her every move. including tantrums, unfortunately. Zoe tries her very best to be the good big sister. but we also acknowledge how hard that can be for a 4-year-old. So we are working hard to make sure that they are receiving age-appropriate attention. Zoe is already making artwork and decorations for her birthday in late December, which I chuckle.

She started wearing a helmet shortly before turning seven months old to correct a mild flat spot. She has already reached within a normal range, but we still keep the helmet on for the night since she tends to favor sleeping on one side. It helps to have her daddy, who specializes in these things...haha.

Survival swim lesson is going well. She started the lessons right as she turned 6 months old. She experienced some regression while we traveled to Asia for 2 1/2 weeks so we are working on getting it back on track. We are hoping that she will graduate from that program soon and can move on to maintenance lessons. She shares a lesson day with Zoe once a week so that has been fun watching them be in the pool together. Trying to float in a big pool is not exactly a fun task for a baby, but I like to think that watching her sister have fun swim gives her a positive motivation.

I get asked often whether she has a schedule. Quite honestly, she does not. We naturally follow Zoe's schedule or whatever activity that is going on with her. What does help is that Zoe goes to school every day so that allows Zaylee to have one solid nap during the day, but the rest tends to be on the go or just being completely flexible. She does naps twice a day; sometimes,3 times a day...once in the car).

Eating-wise, she is mostly formula and then a combination of puree food and some solids that we offer during our meals. She is super interested in everything that we eat which makes us excited. We did find out that she. absolutely love steak; it was hilarious to watch.

We are finally seeing some weather forecast in the 80s which was long overdue here in Texas. I can't wait to bust out some long sleeves for this baby!
