Annual Beh-Chi Reunion

Fall in Texas is finally here (I think) as we get more 70s than the 90s during the day. Yesterday, I busted out my leggings and a light sweatshirt to celebrate the long-awaited cooler weather.

Fall break was a month ago, and we had the pleasure of hosting the Chi Family. We look forward to this gathering which has become a yearly tradition. Z and Eric met at the start of their Teach for America experience in 2010; they were roommates for 2 years in Houston. This was during my long-distance relationship with Z so whenever I went to visit, I also got to hang out with Eric. We have two little girls, and they (Eric and Sheetal) have two little boys, so we were determined to extend our friendship to the little ones. Of course, if you ask the dads, they have a bold ambition of becoming in-laws in the future but let's not put that kind of pressure onto the kids.

Our original plan was to meet at Bonita Springs Coconut Springs Resort and Spa which is a family-friendly Hyatt resort near Ft. Myers, FL. But of course, Hurricane Milton decided to head that way, which forced us to change our plans. Since it was practically still summer in Texas at that time, we suggested they come over here instead. We had the best fall break staycation and couldn't have had better company.

Our extended weekend overflowed with daily pool fun, abundant coloring, and copious dining (both out and about, and homemade). The children engaged in endless play throughout the day, affording the parents some downtime and a chance to converse.

Food is our love and friendship language - we introduced the Chis to homemade hot pot, which was an absolute hit with children. We also tried our first home omakase - an expensive food hobby I admit - but a unique experience worth the price. Home omakase was brought by Chef Han of Kyo Sushi. The convenience of having high-quality dinner at home is unbeatable, of course, the 18-course menu was so fresh and taken with a lot of creative approach. Chef Han brought literally everything, including plating. I would 100% recommend trying this if you are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Lastly, even though my birthday was a week later, Z made sure that it was celebrated surrounded by friends. I got to enjoy a delicious coconut mango cake from Paris baguette (seriously, so happy that this Korean bakery opened up just 15 minutes away from our home), and I am convinced of my love of Asian-style cake.

And no, the child I was holding was not Zoe. But don't you worry - she was standing across from me, fiercely singing that birthday song. I celebrated my 38th birthday with abundant love, gratitude, and contentment.

Since the pool season is officially closed, I thought it would be appropriate to show the level of excitement we have had at this reunion. Thank you for visiting, Chis. Until next time! <3
