My brother in law and his wife purchased a sail boat over the summer so we were anxiously hoping that the weather would be good enough to take it out for a ride. Seattle has been experiecing its wettest October to date, but there was some hope that Sunday morning might be clear from rain…well, the hope came true!

We made it out to the dock around 8:30am and started preparing for the ride. This ride was going to be my first sail boat ride ever, but it also ended up becoming my first crab hunting as well! We are all seafood lovers, and my brother in law has been perfecting his skills over the years on the West Coast catching fresh seafood.

While I am prone to motion sickness, the sail boat ride wasn’t too bad. There were moments I felt awfully sick, but some breathing techniques I learned over the years have helped overcome the worst ones. I braved myself to the tip of the boat to take some “model” pictures (bahahaha, jk), but mainly enjoyed myself being surrounded by the beautiful scenery. We sailed back closer to the city to see a full view of the downtown filled with cranes and modern high risers representing the exponential growth of this city currently faces.

Our adventure took an unexpected turn, however, when the boat experienced an engine failure. After numerous attempt to fix it, we ended up getting rescued after about 2 hours later. We were towed back to the dock. Our way back was breathtaking though, and I simply enjoyed the ride despite a little bit of a hiccup.

We ended up catching about 15 pounds of crabs! I did learn that only the fully grown crabs get to stay with us – baby and female crabs are released back to the ocean to preserve a healthy reproduction system of the specie.

Our dinner eventually became a load of fresh crabs with butter garlic sauce…yum!! Before dinner, we also enjoyed a good time in the hot tub and sauna to relax from a cold day out in the ocean (it ended up raining closer to the end of our boat ride…what’s new, Seattle).

We officially begin our roadtrip tomorrow! We will be driving toward Hood River for a day of hikiing in the mountains near there.
