I’m at 22 weeks this week, and it’s starting to feel real! This past weekend, I set up my first baby registry (in fact, my very first registry because I didn’t set up a wedding registry before) with the help of my friend/co-worker. Quite frankly, setting up a registry, or just simply figuring out what I need as a first-time-mom, was emotionally burdensome for several weeks. It’s funny how impending motherhood leaves a 32-year-old woman completely clueless, but perhaps that’s what makes motherhood (preparation and the journey itself) so unique and life-changing.
I really wanted to keep a minimalist approach (as much as I could, but we shall see) when it comes to “stuff.” I figured a newborn really just needs to fed, cleaned, and slept well for a few months before you start to prepare for new milestones. Of course, I don’t want to start out bare minimum and feeling completely unprepared, but I also didn’t want to overbuy everything not knowing what Baby B would end up liking. Emily (my co-worker/friend) really helped me navigating this since she recently went through this process herself (her boy is turning 1 soon!). I’m also lucky in that I have several friends practically on speed dial whenever I have questions. Sisterhood is amazing.
Z and I still have many big/important items that need to be decided on (e.g., travel system, crib, rock n play, etc.) so I’ll probably heading back to the store to teach him what I’ve learned so far lol.
As far as the registry goes, we will probably stick with Buy Buy Baby and Amazon to keep the shopping experience as convenient as possible.
