Our first (fur)baby turned 7 this past Wednesday and a celebration was in order! As a typical rescue scenario, her true birthday and age are a mystery, but after some meaningful consideration, we decided that September 26th was going to Lilly’s Day.
Lilly was our first rescue from a Houston shelter just months after we got married. Now that we think about it, our decision was certainly spur-of-the-moment and made us unprepared human adopters, but Lilly guided us through all of our transitions like a champ. Lilly made us look easy since she was already house trained, knew basic commands, and was very mild mannered. Of course, over the course of years, her diva-like personality started to shine and continues to make us laugh each day.
Let’s check out how she decided to pregame her birthday (see above for photographic evidence). The day before her birthday, I got a text from my dog walker for her routine post-walk visit report and informed me that Lilly rolled on a dead snake. Anyone who knows her will realize that Lilly hates staying clean….she sees a dead animal and will promptly roll around. That night, she was given a bath, which is her favorite activity in the house (see above photo for verification).
The next day, I picked up her (dog-friendly) cake and went to Wellspent Brewery for the monthly STLInstsaPup meetup. It was actually Lilly and Stark’s first time attending so I figured what a great way to introduce them to other pups with a giant treat!
Z was able to join the party at the last minute so we had a complete family! We had lots of happy (and hyper) dogs. Happy birthday, Lilly! We ❤ you.
